Bolt strikes TWICE!

For those of you fellow red-eyed, baggy-eyed, squinty-eyed, sleep encrusted-eyed followers of the Olympics--we have witnessed more history in the making! The 100m and 200m domination of Jamaica's superstar sprinter, Usain Bolt, has been at the forefront of news (most notably after Phelps-mania subsided).

Bolt, 22, gained notoriety for his early celebration in the 100m race. Many have criticized the sprinter for his seemingly premature "chest pat" claiming it to be unsportsmanlike and disrespectful to the other runners. In any other situation, I'd probably feel the same way...but as for this case--WHO CARES?! This guy brings a combination of intensity and confidence to the sport.

Not since the 1996 games in Atlanta (da "A") has a runner captured my full attention (Michael Johnson). Bolt's height of 6' 5" has definitely given him an advantage over most sprinters. His long legs make his strides seem effortless.

I don't know about you--but I was completely FLOORED by the fact that this guy has time to frickin' slow down at the end of the race!!! Most runners are trucking full-speed ahead at the finish line, but this guy is easing up and looking at his watch as he pulls into the station!

If you aren't on the Bolt Bandwagon yet, you may wanna pull up a seat beside me! (I bit that from Madden NFL 2005)

The jury's still out on the behavior of Mr. Bolt as far as I'm concerned. There is not doubt that he is very talented (and I agree that his height makes it super easy for him to dominate the competition). However, I was watching his race last night and he was SO EXTRA. I think there is a difference b/t confidence and cockiness...and Mr. Bolt just seems cocky. But hey, "do what you do make it work for ya"

What I was DYING laughing at (& simultaneously almost in tears about) was Wallace Spearmon running around w/ an American flag thinking he placed and come to find out he was disqualified for going over the line (as well as the other guy who thought he placed...can't remember what country he was from). Then when the reporter asked Spearmon when he found out he was disqualified he was like "Just now"...LOL...and he said he was gonna protest! Boy stop, it's on the jumbo screen for everyone to see. In the words of T.I. "you know what it is."

Bolt is simply amazing and has come out of no where! He wasn't a threat at all at last year's World Games ...

Even though I hated on Michael Phelps, I must give him and Bolt their propers (ha). These two men were the only athletes who were expected to win and actually did. So many others choked but not Phelps and not Bolt.

@danielle: You are right in the fact that he's extra... Like I said--if it were anyone else, I'd show my disdain for his actions as well. But this dude was simply phenomenal. All the finger-wagging is out the window now! Bolt was brash and cocky at times, but his legs cashed the check that his mouth wrote!

@rungirl.: I'm sure I don't follow Track & Field to the extent that you do (I mean, your moniker IS "rungirl.") but I don't recall hearing ANYTHING about this guy before Beijing either! He just came outta nowhere and snatched medals left-and-right. I'm just waiting on all the performance-enhancment questions to rear their ugly heads...
